FMP | 14 - 01 - 13 Briefing

Notes from today's Final Major Project briefing with Course Leader, Fred Bates.

NOTES

* Next week are individual progress tutorials with either Fred or Amber.
* Talk about what I can be helped with to ensure the best possible grade outcomes at the end of Level 06.
* Discuss what I've learnt about from the last module and how I build upon this experience for FMP.
* Group surgeries this week- group can get a sense of what we're doing in FMP. Bring briefs, any design development and design context work. Discuss briefs I plan to work on and how to most effectively develop them (show work completed so far for Paul Danks, Ross Neil and Yearbook).
* Get some design context work up on blogs. Prep short 3/4 minute presentation about plans for FMP... very structured and clear for the tutorial, a sense of what we're all doing, bring examples of previous work, etc.
* End of Year show is NOT part of our Final Major Project.

* Organise and create work that communicates work to a wider culture- don't just design for design.
* Duke Street Studios workshops and summer events will also be briefed in due course to help bridge the gap between student and professional life.
* Be innovative, entrepreneurial and proactive in sorting our lives out and planning for the future.

* New Blood is in July this year. Talking throughout the next few months- Taking 8-9 people down to show banners of work. Also take down 2-3 portfolios so everyone's work is represented- all branded in relation to the yearbook. A means of both industry and social contact. Portfolio surgeries are also offered to a small, select group through New Blood.
* The sooner work is generated, the sooner people are selected. Want to take a high standard and developed range of work. Can start early if work is readily being produced. Document all preparation work (if selected) on the PPD blog. Build up list of dates for events, meeting designers, etc. BEFORE Easter (for PPD Presentation).
* Will be asking for End of Year show designs and input over the next couple of months. We will also be given £50 cash towards the "resolving" or preparation of FMP/End of Year Show.
* Respond to deadlines (high attendance, etc.) or you will suffer in regards to exposure (may even be removed) in the End of Year Show. Must be able to articulate our projects and what we aspire to do.
* The design for the prospectus will come back for BAGD (paid) immanently. Tom & Oli (Catalogue) won the annual prospectus/National awards.
* End of Year show design pitch will also be released asap.
* Get your work out there and SEEN by people- also have access to the studio over summer.

YEARBOOKS

* Good quality of work produced- sometimes needs more work or consideration, found through selection process.
* Weds/Thurs, a meeting for the yearbook, pitching will be held-brand guidelines, course delegation, etc. By Wednesday, think about group we submitted and pitched with, do we want to reform a group, etc?
* Six other yearbooks to do- some print, some PDF, etc.
* Group HAS to be four/five people.
* Think budget restrictions..
* Matt, Dom, and Oli chosen for the yearbook design.
* Be sure to keep in contact with BAGD boys, representing tutors as a client. Provide, be there, and attend all meetings... with the authority of the tutors... if you miss deadlines YOU WILL NOT BE IN THE YEARBOOK.
